DJ Diaries: Vol. 1

I want to share a story from a wedding in which Ivy Hill Entertainment provided music a few months back in September. It was a beautiful day, at a beautiful venue, and the guests had an infectious positive energy about them. The day had been going great, and I was DJing the reception, having an awesome time. We were getting down to Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, T-Pain, and much more. It was a real dance party!

While planning the music for the wedding, I worked with the couple and figured out the vibe they wanted for the reception, and so far it was perfect. However, there was a curious request that I was unsure about. Among all the dancing, laughing, and drinking, how was I to play Creed's "One Last Breath"? In the midst of Pitbull, Rihanna, and Michael Jackson, it seemed out of place. Nevertheless, I cued up "One Last Breath" and what happened next I will never forget. The Groom and Groomsmen all looked up at each other and shouted, "It's our song!" They all embraced in a circle and, along with the entire room, sang every word at the top of their lungs.

That moment is one of my favorite performance memories of my entire career. The best part about it was that it was a surprise, no special announcement. Once the song came on, everyone knew what it meant. I absolutely love working with couples personally, and the benefits are substantial! Everyone has a special relationship with music, because life happens while music is playing. To be able to bring back memories and evoke emotions is a beautiful position to be in, especially on a day full of so much love.

Happy holidays!
