Trace Repeat is an Oakland-based eight-piece soul and funk band. They believe in reviving the aesthetics of their Motown forefathers, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and The Temptations. Huffpost says if you don't feel Trace Repeat's funky groove, check your pulse!

From Bandleader Wesley Woo:

"Asian Americans are most commonly known as the quiet type. Silent and compliant, the submissive race. We are the quiet kid in the back of the class that minds our own business and doesn't cause trouble...What we're really setting out to do with Trace Repeat is break down these stereotypes...It's an unapologetically sexy representation of funk and soul in an industry that expects us to be anything but that." Trace Repeat's Mission Statement

Listen to [Trace Repeat’s] music and find yourself lost in brassy chords, throaty vocals, and seductive lyrics reminiscent of Motown—a movement defined by African American icons like the Temptations and Stevie Wonder

In a world that doesn’t leave much room for Asian men outside of the “dopey, emasculated sidekick,” the band stands out for what they call their “unapologetically sexy” style.
